Hola All
Wow, where do I begin. Driving through the Spanish countryside is:
A) Invigorating
B) Exhilarating
C) Scary
D) Exhausting
E) All of the above
That was a just a ruse, there is no wrong answer. We left Madrid heading for the coast and it was one extreme to the next. At any point in time you could be driving through a mountain range with clouds surrounding you like British fog and then within 15 minutes you could be lower down in a desolate scrubland feeling like you just landed in an old Clint Eastwood, Sergio Leone movie.
Then you could blink and wake up in lush green areas full of Olive Tree groves and Grapevine fields.
We didn’t want to go all the way to Barcelona in one drive as it was almost 700 kilometers so we had decided earlier to stop at a smaller city, Zaragosa for the night to cut the drive in half. Little did we know that these people were in the middle of a week long festival complete with bullfights everyday of the week, (We skipped that) and town festivals where the down town core was shut down every evening and the older people would dress in traditional clothing. The woman looking very traditional Spanish, but the men looked like a cross between Pirates and Gypsies!!
Our stopover just to rest turned into a very fun day.
The next day we got up early and after breakfast we drove 4 more hours to a small town called Figueres. This cool little place is home to the Salvador Dali museum. When I rank my favourite artists I start with Van Gogh, then Monet and after that comes……DALI. This was so cool. To see hundreds of art pieces that I had only ever saw previously in books was awesome. Attached a couple of photos. The small fellow in the white shirt in front of the museum is me
and that’s Joani in front of the car.
Blah, blah ,blah.
Are your ears tired?
Garry
